The mountains sound like dragonfly wings

mom

Here’s a poem from Jean Clarke (yes, my mom!) about hiking in the Belknap Range of New Hampshire transcribed and illustrated by yours truely. When she showed it to me she talked about the repeating final line of each stanza. She said, “When I’m hiking I’m always moving forward and past things in the forest, leaving them behind me.”

  1. This process of reflecting and putting words to paper made my hiking experience so much more than leaving things behind. I’m looking forward to my next Sound Bytes challenge already. Thanks for the opportunity Bethany!
