It’s Forty Degrees and Raining

Image

The rain made me believe I swam

in the ocean again, but this time there was no

salty ring around my lips, no briny sea air to catch

and linger on my tongue. I tried to breathe in

but I sucked up a handful of raindrops

into the back of my throat,

the drops I swallowed billowing down

into the basic of my stomach

as my feet knocked me forward,

a naseau of numb seeping into spaces of my bones.

Billowing skirt hiked up near my waist,

and held in slowly blueing fingers,

I hope you liked the look of my legs

as I slipped under your window.

I hope you liked the look of my legs

which would rather be swimming

in the salt of the sea.
